Jeff Bezos Plans to Fly to Space With His Brother Next Month

Updated: Nov 4

Outgoing Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has shone a light on his plans after he steps down from the company he founded. After his last day at Amazon — reported to be July 5 — Bezos and his brother Mark plan to fly to space on July 20 on the New Shepard spacecraft produced by Blue Origin, a company Bezos founded in 2000.

Announcing his intention on Instagram, Bezos added “Ever since I was five years old, I’ve dreamed of traveling to space. On July 20, I will take that journey with my brother. The greatest adventure, with my best friend.”

Jeff and Mark Bezos will occupy two of the six seats on the trip, which will last for 11 minutes and see the crew members travel 62 miles above the Earth’s surface. One of the four vacant seats is currently open for auction, with the current offer reportedly approaching $3 million USD following 6,000 participants from 143 countries.
