- The Saudi Art Council Launches a Ground Breaking Exhibition This Summer
The Saudi Art Council has just announced the launch of its eighth art exhibition set to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Titled “The Secrets of Alidades” the installation is curated by French art historian Fabien Danesi, showcasing the works of over 30 artists around the theme of the universe and the galaxy. Initially set to be open to the public in March, the exploration of the milky-way through art was eventually delayed due to the pandemic. The council’s newest iteration of its 21,39 exhibition—which alludes to Jeddah’s geographic coordinates—has granted the university professor with the relevant tools and means to reflect upon past sailor’s experiences across the seven seas with stars as they usually helped them navigate towards their desired point of arrival. For those that are unfamiliar with astronomy and space, an Alidade is a measuring tool used many moons ago to evaluate the distance of an object according to a specific point of reference and that consequently determines relevant directions for explorers. In this case, the Alidade will guide us through stars as well as the carefully selected artworks to “help us drift in our cultural field with the contrary winds and ocean currents” as Danesi told Arab News in an interview. The non-profit organisation will reveal a wide range of pieces and collections from prominent regional artists including Nasser El Salem, Aisha Zakiya and Bashaer Hawsawi to name just a few. Also, the show will put the spotlight women creatives throughout the event with 22 installations owing to them, representing the majority force of this year’s gallery display. Perfect opportunity for aspiring artists to go global, the exhibition, which runs until September 7th, is Saudi’s jewel event to make sure not to miss this summer. - This Startup Gives You A Chance to Own a Piece of Digital Fashion History
You may remembe r The Fabricant as the first fashion company to ever release an NFT. Their Iridescence dress sold for $9500 all the way back in March 2019. Well, now the digital couture house is teaming up with another powerhouse in RTFKT — the crypto brand that made history this February selling $3.1 million worth of NFT sneakers in seven mins. On April 16, the two heavy-weights of the Digital Fashion space dropped a co-branded collection exclusively via the Dematerialised marketspace. Titled “RenaiXance,” the NFT collection aims “to redefine the meaning of street-culture in the digital era.” The creators explained, “This NFT collection offers the community a chance to own a part of Digital Fashion history. It was a dream to secure exclusivity for this drop with the two leading brands in the space.” The Fabricant team has designed each piece for “the Future Ancestors of the Metaverse.” Inspired by the new wave of fashion re-constructivists (creatives taking garments apart and reconstituting them back together) and the Renaissance period of the 1500s, the collection draws on the idea of fluidity while pushing back against fixed ideas of gender with corsets that are both archetypal and futuristic. Completing the look are RTFKT's latest sneakers, “where medieval and ancient aesthetics mix with a punk mentality to create a rebel spirit for the present.” The “RenaiXance” collection is currently available on the Dematerialised . - Emirati Online Fashion Marketplace Boksha Secures US$1 Million In Seed Funding Round
Boksha , an online marketplace for independent fashion designers with a focus on Khaleeji styles, has secured US$1 million from a group of investors. The group of investors includes Sandooq Al Watan and family offices. Founded in 2018, Boksha has 800 boutiques and more than 15,000 products, such as abayas, kaftans, travel wear, and dresses, listed on its platform. Yahya Mohamed Saleh, co-founder and CEO, says that 90% of the designers presented on the platform are UAE-based, with the majority of them being women between 18 and 35 of age. "We provide designers with a wide range of online and offline services so that they can focus on what they do best- designing,” says Saleh. "A designer on the platform can be someone running their businesses from home, or someone with their own studios and retail shop, and Boksha differentiates itself from other online fashion websites by not selling any global brands, hence, designers are keen to join the platform. Our product offering is unique, custom-made, and is from creative local talent.” The name-Boksha, is derived from an Arab Gulf dialect, referring to a piece of fabric traditionally used as a pouch or head carrier by female merchants for the storage of their garments and goods. The company aims to empower the region’s independent fashion designers by providing technology in order to help them to expand their reach and become global players in the industry. “We provide designers with their own unique shop front on the website and the app, with a backend to manage orders and financials ,” Saleh explains. "We also see ourselves as a one-stop shop for the designers where we provide customer service to shoppers, delivery, photography, videography, and access to events. Finally, we don’t operate on a consignment model; items are picked up from boutiques on demand." Boksha ships to more than 40 countries worldwide, including the GCC, USA, UK, France, Australia, and Canada, with Saleh noting that approximately 70% of sales are international. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that Boksha has been recognized by investors as a largely scalable business. Indeed, the Boksha team aims to utilize the seed funds to scale up operationally, and further invest into its technology in order to enter new markets in the GCC region. - Emarati Entrepreneur Budreya Faisal, Founded The Region's First Athlete Brand Development Agency.
Budreya Faisal is the CEO and Founder of Ghost Concept, the 1st and only athlete brand development agency on the GCC. The Emirati entrepreneur's journey led to her being the only athlete brand expert in the MENA region, it started with her love for “the beautiful game.” “This all started with me falling in love with football, while I was doing postgraduate studies in car design with Lamborghini in Italy in 2004,” Faisal recalls. “I went on a San Siro Stadium tour with some friends, having no interest in football or the actual game when we got there, but by the time I walked out of that stadium, I was hooked. Shevchenko changed my life. A. C. Milan became my team. Football became my passion, and eventually my life’s work, calling, and purpose.” After Faisal’s interest in the sports business was ignited, she chose to get involved in it from the marketing side, with her career's trajectory beginning by her taking on the role of a Creative Projects Advisor in the CEO’s office, for the inaugural Formula One Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2009. She then moved on to work at the Dubai Sports Council, where she ended up becoming the first person to become its Head of Sports Tourism. That was followed by a stint at the UAE Pro League as its Marketing Director for three years, and Faisal then moved to work at the Al Ahli Football Club as its Commercial Director for 10 months. Looking back at this career trajectory, Faisal says, “This background and experience gave me the chance to look at football from every angle, council, league, and club. I worked with some great people; I made a difference. But it wasn’t enough. There were always political roadblock s , as there are in every organization. When I felt like I wasn’t able to make the real change I had hoped to make, I temporarily got out of football.” But Faisal’s exit from the world of sport didn’t last for long. She had heard about a great player who got embroiled in what she calls “an insignificant, so-called scandal” that made it to the news, and that essentially forced him to sign a club contract at a lower value than what Faisal thought he’s actually worth on the pitch. “This made my blood boil,” she said. “Our players, while very talented, lacked the understanding of their actual value in the sport and country, and let it be whatever these contracts told them they were worth. They weren’t surrounded by empowerment and advisors. I decided to change that, protect them, educate them on their value , while also building it up, helping them, their clubs, and the countries they play for. A month later, I had the keys to my first Ghost Concept office.” Faisal launched Ghost Concept with the aim to help athletes enhance their personal and digital brand development , with a focus on being professional players in the Arab league, especially Arab players, so as to give them the benefits we've only seen players abroad enjoy. “We initially started with working with the bigger names, the National Teams’ above-29 players, thinking they would need our services the most to help them build value and a legacy, before their sporting careers come to an end,” Faisal says. “But 18 months into our start, we changed courses.” This shift in strategy was precipitated by something Faisal didn’t really expect- as it so happens, the people she was targeting were simply not keen on accepting what she had to offer. “It was all too new, untried, or untested,” she says. “People had never heard of these offerings that I’d put together based on the needs of this region, and of course, a lot of research.” But Faisal was also not ready to accept the status quo. “Having only a handful of companies globally specialize in the areas of athlete brand development and management made it even more important for me to trust in the fact that nobody knows our football and our football culture like we do, and we’ve come too far in this country to think we need to simply copy what’s been done abroad,” Faisal declares. “We’re industry leaders and game changers here, and this challenge and business was going to be no exception. Once we realized it was too difficult for the older, nationally celebrated players who were more set in their ways to see why they needed us, we changed our strategy. Now, our most important criteria is that a player is hungry for growth and willing to put in the work.” Ghost Concept;s esteemed client list includes: the Saudi League’s top scorer and Captain of the Syrian National Team, Omar Al Somah, as well as the UAE National Team player Ali Saleh, the left-winger of Al Wasl Club who was awarded the title of the Arabian Gulf League’s Golden Boy for 2018/19. Ghost concept rebranded Al Somah's nickname from "OS9" to ‘SOMAH,’ with the release of a very special logo and a photoshoot they designed and directed for him that almost instantly elevated his image. Now, SOMAH advertises with Call of Duty, Pepsi, Paco Rabanne, PlayStation, and FIFA 21. The agency also managed his move back to Adidas, and ensured they got maximum exposure from the brand. - Dogecoin Co-Creator Says Cryptocurrency Is Now "Controlled by a Powerful Cartel of Wealthy Figures"
Dogecoin co-creator, Jackson Palmer, recently took to Twitter t o speak his thoughts on the current state of cryptocurrency. In a lengthy scathing thread, Palmer shared his negative view of the current state of cryptocurrencies, openly calling the digital asset “a joke” back in 2013. Noting that “cryptocurrency is an inherently right-wing, hyper-capitalistic technology built primarily to amplify the wealth of its proponents through a combination of tax avoidance, diminished regulatory oversight and artificially enforced scarcity.” Instead of bringing “decentralization,” Palmer claims that crypto is actually “controlled by a powerful cartel of wealthy figures” that are using it to “extract new money from the financially desperate and naive.” He also revealed why he hasn’t been more vocal, Palmer stating, “cryptocurrency is like taking the worst parts of today’s capitalist system (eg. corruption, fraud, inequality) and using software to technically limit the use of interventions (eg. audits, regulation, taxation) which serve as protections or safety nets for the average person.” He ended his thread with, “new technology can make the world a better place, but not when decoupled from its inherent politics or societal consequences.” Follow us on: Instagram Facebook YouTube Make sure to share this post and subscribe to our newsletter to receive notifications on our latest posts, as well as exclusive content and much more!

Elon Musk continues doing what he does best (aside from building electric vehicles) and that would be, trolling the tech world with outrageous yet genius ideas. His latest move capitalizes on the ongoing NFT craze with his very own NFT release — but there are levels to this one. He has just released an NFT that’s a techno track about NFTs. The track repeats the lyrics “NFT, for Your Vanity,” “It’s Verified, Guaranteed,” and “Computers Never Sleep.” Along with, a golden trophy of Doge dogs, diamond hands, “HODL” lettering, and a rocketship, all rotating along with neon lights. It’s hard not to be hypnotized with all this going on. There’s no news on which platform he will be selling his NFT, and for all we know, he could be creating his own. For now, just hit that play button and embrace the track. - Meet The Dubai Based Artist Who Is Putting Smiles On People's Face's One Portrait At a Time
Ramsha is a 24 year old Artist based in Dubai. She's been drawing since before she could write, it’s always been a form of self expression for her. Her style is a mix between realism & surrealism- constantly merging what’s right in front of her with her perception & imagination. Around October of 2020, while we were still adjusting to the “new normal” of masked faces everywhere, she started drawing random strangers she came across. Through this, she was able to regain the human the interaction we all felt was missing, while making someone’s day just a little bit better. This endeavor has turned her into a Tik Tok sensation amassing just over 62k followers on the platform, as well as being featured on popular pages such as "Lovin Dubai." The term ‘sonder’, is a huge inspiration behind these stranger drawings. The idea that everyone you come across is living a life ‘as complex and as vivid as your own’ is a both grounding and fascinating concept to her. The idea that a quick drawing can wove it’s way into becoming a small part of someone’s story is a fulfilling enough thought for her to keep doing them. -Which artists were you most inspired by growing up? Salvador Dali, for his surrealistic approach to life. The idea that our perception is an illustration of our mind is a fascinating concept which I love to explore*. Interestingly, I grew up reading Archie Comics, and practically learned how to draw from the 'How to Draw Archie' pages. I give a lot of credit to Dan DeCarlo and Stan Goldberg. -Do you feel that drawing strangers you come across had an impact on you, how has it affected you? Yes definitely. I'm really passionate about people in general, particularly fascinated by the idea that every person you come across is living a life as 'vivid and complex' as your own. Through these drawings, where I'm able to physically interact with the 'strangers' is a beautiful reminder of that thought and a small way to make a little mark in someone else's life - who was just a random passerby a few minutes earlier. I've also become more aware, grateful and empathetic as a person. Most of the strangers I've drawn are one of the most hard working people I've met. From leaving their home countries, to working long shifts, or not seeing their families often, I'm both grateful and humbled for the little things in my life, which I now see as luxuries I'm thankful for. -What was the most memorable reaction you've ever received? It's hard to say since seeing someone get excited about your work is such a warm memory. If I absolutely had to pick one, I'd say it was Maqsood's at the Emarat Petrol Station. Normally, if someone is having a difficult and busy day, they might almost find it annoying that someone stopped them to show a quick drawing they made. I was reluctant at first to do so, not to get in his way during a busy day. However, his reaction made it so worth it. Not only was he happy but so humble and patient about it. Emarat reached out to me later, I hope they give him recognition for the wonderful person & employee he is. -Do you see yourself turning your artistic talent into a career, if so where do you see yourself 10 years from now as an artist? It's interesting because with a background and degree in Business, I always assumed I'd climb the ladder of the corporate world. However, I no longer see the need to carve and choose one path alone. I've been combining my skills and love for Art and Business since I've graduated, and feel so fulfilled being able to use both. There are many routes to success and self fulfillment which I plan to reach by taking the different paths I come across. 10 years from now, I hope I look back at an interesting journey, where I was able to merge my love and passion for Art, Business, People & Culture, all into one complex, route. I see art in that alone. - This is How Dubai is capitalizing on the cryptorich increasingly turning to real estate investments
There has been an increasing number of real estate investors who are closing property deals through cryptocurrency payments as a means of speeding up the buying process and cutting out the middle-men. Dubai-based assets digitization start-up Xplor is looking to capitalize on this trend. The tech frim has developed a digital brokerage platform where potential buyers can see the property’s 3D simulation online and pay for it using cryptocurrency. “Our core focus is to disrupt the industry and come up with a solution which connects end-users directly with the real estate developers, cutting out all middle-men,” said Can Turkan, chief operating officer, at Ayana Holding and founding partner of Xplor, which is a part of Ayana Holding. The aim of the development of this new platform is to attract new investors with cryptocurrency deal. “We are allowing crypto-investors to pay with their cryptocurrencies and accept bitcoin, ethereum and 70 other digital currencies,” Turkan added. The current property investment model is time-consuming and costly, according to tech firm's founder. “In the traditional international property investment model, investors need to visit the country where the property is and spend some time there exploring, and doing the needed paperwork. Also, there are many intermediaries including real estate developers, brokers, banks…,” he said. “Typically, when paying for property remotely, there are certain limitations to transferring the money for the down payment into the country, including transaction limits,” added Turkan. Through Xplor’s digital brokerage platform, which is expected to launch by October, Xplor works with a custodian bank to convert the digital currencies into fiat currency which is then sent to the real estate developer. Cryptocurrencies can be transferred in minutes and with negligible fees in comparison to payments through banks, which can take days and can become very costly, said Turkan. Another reason why real estate investors are favoring payments in cryptocurrencies is that the blockchain technology behind them acts as a digital ledger of transactions, increasing transparency. This is done, in order to circumvent money-laundering concerns, Xplor will outsource due diligence and KYC procedures to experts who are specialized, the company will also conduct video verification when veting potential investors. The start-up’s model of providing a comprehensive view of the property and its surroundings further streamlines the property investment process by allowing potential buyers to decide on what they want without the influence of brokers or developers, said Turkan. He added that it also saves them a visit to the country. While it is too soon to exactly quantify how cryptocurrencies and blockchain are disrupting the global real estate market, numerous reports highlight the potential for the technology to transform the industry by making it more efficient and modern. Several real estate developers in the UAE, including Ellington Properties, are accepting payment in cryptocurrencies if managed through licensed brokers, Paula Wehbeh-Gambrell, chief executive officer-Strategy at Ellington Properties told Arabian Business in an interview in April. In January last year, Huobi, a digital assets exchange provider, announced its partnership with Dubai-based Fäm Properties to offer secure crypto payment options for its real estate investors. - You Can Now Reserve an Overnight Stay at the Palace of Versailles for $2,000 USD a Night
France’s Palace of Versailles is now accepting overnight reservations for the first time ever, under operations by the Airelles Château de Versailles, Le Grand Contrôle hotel. The regal getaway — Airelles’ seventh luxury hotel property — houses a spa, an almost 50-foot-long indoor swimming pool and a kitchen led by chef Alain Ducasse, whose menu draws from the exquisite flavors of King Louis XIV’s French court. The most alluring amenity, though, is the exclusive access to the palace, which includes areas that are typically blocked to visitors. Nightly reservations begin at €1,700 EUR (or $2,014 USD) and include tours through various quarters of the palace complex, including the king and queen’s state apartments as well as a hall of mirrors. Guests also have the opportunity to explore other parts of the grounds, including the 2,000-acre Orangery Gardens, the Grand Trianon and Le Hameau de la Reine, which was built for Queen Marie Antoinette. Le Grand Contrôle was first designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart as a hunting lodge in 1861 for King Louis XIV. Turning the decades-old building into a present-day hotel, architect Christophe Tollemer led a careful restoration process, which included the implementation of historical features like parquet flooring, stonework and wood panelling as well as working with a French heritage and art specialist to decorate the hotel with period work, furniture and other details that recreate its 1788 French ambiance. Additional Le Grand Contrôle experiences include a dedicated butler, breakfast, afternoon tea and a stocked minibar. For dinner, the hotel aims to recreate traditional royal banquets at Ducasse at Château de Versailles, where waiters ring a bell to call guests to their tables for a five-course meal promptly at 9 p.m. Take a look at images of the hotel above, and head to Le Grand Contrôle’s website to book a reservation.
